Cinco de Mayo Fiesta! Guitar Concert

A guitar concert which will include music of Mexico and other Hispanic countries, as well as some other festive music!

 

Jim McCutcheon is president of the Dayton Classical Guitar Society and owner of McCutcheon Music.  He hosts "The Intimate Guitar" on Dayton Public Rado and produces three concert series at the Dayton Art Institute.

Program is free and geared toward adult listeners.

This is an introductory presentation in Compassionate Communication, also known as Nonviolent Communication, developed by mediator and clinical psychologist, Marshall B. Rosenberg, PhD.  Learn to speak up when it's scary, break the cycle of destructive self-talk, get along with others in more satisfying ways, let go of judgments about ourselves and others, and resolve conflicts that do occur peacefully--and happily. 

And, you will learn one way to start using it now.

Presenter Diane Diller, Compassionate Communication Trainer, has been learning and practicing it since 2004 and teaching since 2009.
 
This program is free and open to adults and teens ages 15 and up.

Instructor Ann Anzalone is a nationally known, dynamic teacher, speaker and experienced trainer.  Listed in the "Who's Who in American Education," she has conducted workshops for educators, as well as for businesses and corporations.

Property Tax Q&A Session With Warren County Chief Deputy Auditor Matt Nolan

For most people the largest check you write every year is for your property taxes, yet few people know much about them.

 
~ Are you paying too much?
 
~ Are there programs that can help senior citizens or those disabled?
 
~ What do you need to do if you think the Auditor has over-valued your property?
 
~ Are you aware of the change in the law affecting senior citizens?  It is very important that everyone 65 and older know about the Homestead Exemption to taxes and to make sure you are in the program.
 
Speaker Matt Nolan is the Chief Deputy Auditor for the Warren County Auditor's Office.  He is the local expert in all things property tax related including tax levies and property valuations.

World War I and the Creation of the Middle East

Dr. Vaughn Shannon will discuss the causes, conduct and consequences of World War I - how the war reshaped the Middle East to what it looks like today, both in terms of geography and, more importantly, in terms of lingering conflicts in the region.  He will examine how the "war to end all wars," according to historian David Fromkin, created "A Peace to End All Peace."

 

Dr. Vaughn Shannon is Associate Professor of Political Science at Wright State University.  He received his PhD at Ohio State University.  His research and teaching focus is on Middle East politics, international security, and political psychology.  He has published on the Arab-Israeli Conflict as well as US relations with Iran and Iraq.
